The Year 2020
I find it very difficult to fathom where I’ll be in the year 2020, mostly because I don’t even know where I’ll be living next year. So I see this plan as being more what I hope and desire for my future self. Where I would be if I did everything flawlessly. Because when I did this in grade nine I said I wanted to go to USC and then become a flight attendant. Not so realistic. I shall try to be as realistic as possible.
At 37 I hope to be teaching. Teaching what or where is hard to say. Based on what I have done in life thus far, I would choose to teach at an elementary school. However, I do believe that you don’t often choose a profession, it chooses you. So who knows, I could be teaching math (my least favorite subject) to seventh graders in Iowa. Although this is unlikely, never say never.
So I have my what, but where is harder than what. Where is dependent on so many things, if I get my teaching credential in one state or provence then up and moving to a new state or provence would make it harder to teach, since each place has different credential requirements. It also is dependent on who is in my life. I do hope to eventually get married. This is a major factor in where I will be. So for the sake of this project lets say I will be teaching 4th grade at an elementary school in Raleigh North Carolina. I love North Carolina, and I don’t think I want to live where I’ve grown up my entire life.
I think its also important to focus on what I hope to have accomplished by age 37, and how these things were used to achieve my goal. I hope to have graduated from the University of Victoria with a degree in some type of humanities, weather that be women’s studies, english, world history, indigenous studies etc. After graduation I would like to travel and/or volunteer, preferably in South America or Eastern Asia.
Upon returning to North America I will work towards receiving my teaching credentials and completing the necessary work and tests that would make it legal for me to work in an Elementary School. At this point I would like to be in the process of getting married and saving money for my future.
At 37 I don’t know if I will be married, teaching etc but it is important to have goals. Goals are what get us through the various levels of life. My goal currently is to get into college and graduate. Maybe none of this will happen, maybe it all will. Only time will tell.
